Ms. Nottage here. Well, it's been awhile since I've written so, here's an update as to what we're doing in New Durham. As always, the students and teachers are busy learning and teaching, old concepts and materials, as well as new! In December our District Tech Integrator, Mr. Baroody came to spend a week with various classes showing them some of the new apps available and how to use them in the classroom. Our second graders spent some time with him learning how to use Google Docs. They were also taught how to take a picture of themselves using their Chromebook camera and insert it. They were very excited! Third graders spent time learning how to use the app Flipgrid a video conferencing app. Flipgrid allows the teacher to ask a question, or pose a problem, and the students to answer using audio and video through their device. Flipgrid then adds all students responses to a "grid." It's fun and engaging and gives all students a "voice" in their learning. Some of the newer technologies being used throughout our district to help enhance lessons are apps like Thinglink and Explain Everything. These apps off our students various ways to present there work using audio, visual, sound effects, and other elements to create rich projects. Another recommendation for student use is Anchor. A podcast and audio editing program that students will have a blast using and can even invite friends to make recordings with them. A popular app that is being recommended for use is Adobe Scan. This app can use mobile technologies to scan documents and turn them into editable PDF's. So check out some of these app's for yourself. Below are some links to videos that will show you just how they can be used.

Happy Saturday Everyone!
I'm adding some pic's of books that were new in the Spring and are available for use. Now that we have a place to look at our new resources I thought they would be an important addition to view, especially for those teaching and researching habitats. Enjoy! Big THANK YOU'S : 2M - for all the wonderful bookmarks you made for the media center and for your peers to enjoy! Mrs. Randall- for the new copy of Little House in the Big Woods to replace our lost copy! Mrs. Delaney- for the ongoing donations of newer literature to add to our collection! Good morning! It's a cold one out there this morning so stay warm. Maybe curl up with a nice new book! Oh look! New books in the Media Center, be sure to check them out when you get the chance.
As a bonus, the class of 2M has made custom bookmarks that are simply wonderful! Grab one while checking out your new book and be sure to thank a second grader! Thank you 2M, you ROCK! Have you heard? There's a new way to take out books at NDS! All students and staff are now signed up to access online books and audiobooks through OverDrive! If your interested, come into the media center and we'll chat.
